In 2017 — designated Russia’s “Year of Ecology” — will see Gazprom Neft complete a range of projects directed at further reducing the plant’s environmental impacts, involving total investments of over RUB28 billion. The initiatives undertaken will improve efficiency in wastewater treatment at the plant, reduce the emission of pollutants, and improve energy efficiency in production. Modernisation of the Moscow Refinery, being undertaken by Gazprom Neft since 2011, will see the facility ranked among Europe’s best refineries in terms of production efficiency and environmental responsibility.
Construction of innovative treatment facilities — together comprising a “Biosphere” at the Moscow Refinery and designated part of the Federal Plan for the Year of Ecology by the Government of the Russian Federation — will be completed in autumn 2017. Work on the reconstruction of key technological facilities at the plant — the G-43-107 catalytic cracking unit and the AVT-6 crude distillation unit (vacuum distillation unit CDU/VDU) — was undertaken in early 2017. The CDU, in particular, has moved over to using more environmentally friendly gas fuel instead of liquid fuel. Completion of these works has allowed the production of modern, highly environmentally friendly Euro-5 fuels, as well as reducing resources consumption and, consequently, significantly reducing environmental impacts. A system for environmental monitoring remains under development at the plant, in line with recommendations from the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment of the Russian Federation.
