Minister Creed holds call with UK Secretary of State for Environment Food & Rural Affairs Michael Gove M.P.

The Minister for Agriculture Food and the Marine, Michael Creed TD, this afternoon spoke to his UK counterpart Secretary of State Michael Gove MP.

The exchange centred on Brexit, particularly on the Ireland UK trade relationship from an Agri-food and fisheries perspective.  Minister Creed reiterated Ireland’s ambition to see this relationship maintained.

Minister Creed expressed his concerns regarding the decision taken by the UK Government to declare their intention to withdraw from the 1964 London Convention on Fisheries.  The Minister raised with him the importance of long established fishing patterns by the Irish fishing industry and the importance of these being acknowledged and protected in the context of Brexit.
