Gazprom Neft begins commercial production of an innovative new product for road and airfield construction

Gazpromneft Bitumen Materials, operator of Gazprom Neft’s bitumens business, has become the first company in Russia to begin commercial production of a protective and remedial covering to preserve the integrity and extend the useful life of road coverings and airfield runways.

The new product is produced at the company’s Vyazma facility, under the BRIT ZVS brand. By penetrating cracks in coverings it binds the components of the asphalt-concrete mixture and forms a protective layer on the road surface, restoring its operational and high-performance features and protecting it from harmful impacts. The product is resistant to abrasion and, at the same time, increases adhesion capacity through mineral additives, which have the effect of roughening the road surface.

Studies conducted in conjunction with the Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University (MADI) have shown that using BRIT ZVS increases pavements’ water resistance by an average 35 percent (reducing the ability of asphalt concrete to absorb water by one third) and extends a road’s useful life by two to four years, as well as reducing maintenance costs.

Dmitry Orlov, CEO, Gazpromneft Bitumen Materials, commented: “Today’s road industry and airfield infrastructure demand new cutting-edge materials that will increase the serviceable life of road coverings and reduce costs in their usage, maintenance and repair. Our company offers a solution to this problem. This innovative material, combining protective and penetrative properties, restores coverings quickly and effectively, ensuring no interruption to airfield operations. BRIT ZVS’ high quality and innovative characteristics make it a viable substitute for imported products.”

Gazpromneft Bitumen Materials is a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft, specialising in the production and sale of bitumen products. The company now holds a leading position on the Russian bitumens market, with total sales of Gazpromneft-Bitumens’ products in 2016 reaching 1.88 million tonnes. The company’s key production facilities are based in the Moscow, Vyazma, Omsk, Yaroslavl and Ryazan Oblasts, as well as in Serbia and Kazakhstan. The company produces road, construction and roofing bitumens, as well as polymer-modified bitumens (PMBs) and binders (specifically G-Way Styrelf), and a range of bitumen derivatives (mastic compounds, sealants, bridging tapes and more).

Gazprom Neft uses a variety of transport solutions to ensure the supply of bitumen materials throughout Russia, the CIS, and abroad.
