/EINPresswire.com/ -- WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - May 30, 2017) - On June 3-10, the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation, dba NeighborWorks America, and its network of local organizations will kick off the 34^th annual NeighborWorks Week, when thousands of volunteers, businesspeople, neighbors, and local and national elected and civic leaders come together for a week of neighborhood change. Groups around the country will hold more than 200 events where thousands of neighbors and volunteers will participate in community improvement projects. The events include beautifying parks, cleaning up neighborhoods, and hosting events that educate and inform residents about financial literacy, homeownership and more.

"NeighborWorks Week highlights the tremendous work of the NeighborWorks network -- in partnership with residents, civic and business leaders, and others -- in strengthening communities and changing lives," said Paul Weech, president and chief executive officer of NeighborWorks America.

For the second year, the Citi Foundation is NeighborWorks America's national partner for NeighborWorks Week. In addition to a financial commitment, Citi volunteers are joining forces with NeighborWorks organizations across the country to support various projects during Citi's flagship volunteer program, Global Community Day, on June 10.

A few examples of this year's NeighborWorks Week events are:

• Louisville, Kentucky: New Directions Housing Corp. will host an event where volunteers will repair homes that are owned by elderly and disabled homeowners.
• Miami, Florida: Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida will host a "Rock the Block" event to beautify the Dr. Henry W. Mack/West Little River Elementary School and its surrounding area. Two hundred volunteers will transform the school and park to benefit the students and residents of the neighborhood. Volunteers will install murals throughout the school, build gardens, landscape the school's entrance, and install a literacy lounge.
• Roseburg, Oregon: NeighborWorks Umpqua will host an annual cleanup and recycling drive in Southeast Roseburg, hosted in collaboration with SERVICE and other for- and non-profit partners.
• New York, New York: Neighborhood Housing Services will host an orientation session to help prospective homebuyers understand the services and resources that the organization offers for sustainably purchasing their first home.
