Alexey Miller moderates 36th Presiding Committee Meeting and 20th General Meeting of International Business Congress

Vienna hosted today the 36th Presiding Committee Meeting and the 20th Annual General Meeting of the International Business Congress (IBC) moderated by Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and President of the IBC.

The Meeting participants took stock of the IBC performance in 2016. Among other things, they approved the annual report for the fiscal year 2016 and commended the IBC Presiding Committee and the IBC Board of Executive Directors for their work over that period. In addition, the Chairpersons of the Working Committees presented their progress reports. PricewaterhouseCoopers Berlin was appointed as the IBC auditor for 2017.

The Meeting also included the election of the IBC Executive Board and Presiding Committee. Alexey Miller was reelected as the IBC President. Klaus Schaefer, Chief Executive Officer of Uniper, was elected as the IBC Vice President.

The new Presiding Committee consists of Joerg Bongartz, Managing Director Regional Management Central and Eastern Europe, Deutsche Bank; Thilo Wieland, Member of the Board of Executive Directors, Wintershall Holding; Dmitry Zhuravlev, Director General, Gazprom Avtomatizatsiya; Rainer Seele, Chairman of the Executive Board, OMV; Peter van der Linde, Group Director, Royal Boskalis Westminster; Yasuhiko Hashimoto, Executive Officer, Joint Head of Europe, Middle East and Africa, Mizuho Bank; and Grant Tadevosyan, Director General, Gazprom Armenia.

Margarita Hoffmann, Managing Director of Wintershall Russland, was elected to the IBC Board of Executive Directors. Nebojsa Jankovic, Head of the Comita Group of Companies for Russia and CIS, was elected as the Chairman of the Ecology and Healthcare Working Committee.

It was resolved to hold the next General Meeting in India in 2018.

The Natural Gas as Destination Fuel for the Future Conference took place as part of the Congress.

“Natural gas is the energy source that will fill the gaps left by renewable technologies. Gas meets every requirement for energy carriers in today’s economy. It means enormous reserves coupled with exceptional reliability and availability. It means market development and sustainable trade models worldwide. Moreover, gas is the cleanest fossil fuel. From a technological and environmental standpoint, gas is perfectly positioned to become the destination fuel for the future in Europe and the world at large,” said Alexey Miller.

In addition, a working meeting took place today between Alexey Miller and Mario Mehren, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Wintershall Holding. The parties discussed the dynamics of the European gas market and the development of the gas transportation infrastructure.

Background

The International Business Congress (IBC) is an international non-governmental and non-profit organization. The IBC consists of 129 members, including Gazprom, Deutsche Bank, ExxonMobil, ENGIE, Gasunie, J.P. Morgan Bank International, KPMG, Mitsubishi, Mizuho Bank, Siemens, Shell, Statoil, Schneider Electric, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Total, Uniper, Wintershall, Sakhalin Energy, Srbijagas, and others. The IBC membership comprises 28 countries.

The IBC's supreme body is the General Meeting. The 50-member Presiding Committee exercises general management. The nine-member Board of Executive Directors is responsible for operational issues.

The Congress deals with the practical aspects of economic cooperation and brings forward proposals for debottlenecking and building a favorable environment for safe and efficient entrepreneurial activities. The IBC operates through eight Working Committees: Energy; Industry, Innovations and Prospective Development; Law, Banking and Finance; Information and Communications; Ecology and Healthcare; Modern Technologies and Prospective Oil and Gas Industry Projects; Human Resources, Education and Science; and Business Security.
