DETROIT, MICHIGAN, UNITED STATES, May 5, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Yesterday at the 2017 CEO Breakfast Meeting, Ford Motor Company announced the 2016 spend totals for Minority, Women and Veteran Owned Businesses. “By coming from almost nothing four years ago to announcing a stunning $1.1 Billion spend with Veteran Owned Businesses in 2016, Ford has set the benchmark that proves Corporations are issuing supplier contracts to Certified Service Disabled and Veteran Owned Businesses (SD/VOBs)” said Keith King, President of the National Veteran Business Development Council (NVBDC).

The CEO Breakfast Meeting, presented by Ford’s Supplier Diversity Development Office, honored Tier II “Supplier Diversity Overachievers”. Ford announced that the Tier II spend with diverse businesses in 2016 was $3.4 Billion. “We are proud to say that several of those Tier II overachievers are NVBDC sponsors whose outstanding inclusion of our certified SD/VOBs in their supplier diversity spend helped them earn this recognition from Ford”, King added.

“What is truly amazing, and something we want our SD/VOBs to recognize, is that Ford has made hiring NVBDC certified SD/VOBs a priority with their Tier I, II and III suppliers. By adding Veteran Business contracts awarded to the Tier suppliers diversity “scorecard” Ford has opened doors for many more of our SD/VOBs that otherwise would not have been available to them. We have estimated, based on the declared spend targets of our Corporate sponsors, that our NVBDC certified SD/VOBs have the opportunity to secure $80 Billion in contracts”, continued King.

Over the past three years, as Ford demanded that all SD/VOB suppliers become certified, the amount of the spend with NVBDC certified companies has grown proportionately. We can now say that the $1.1 Billion spend is with certified SD/VOBs, or with those whose certification is pending. Ford has more than lived up to their promise to support our certified Veteran Businesses. What we are seeing today is the true value of the NVBDC SD/VOB certification.

“We are truly appreciative of the exceptional support that Ford has given to the NVBDC, and to our certified SD/VOBs. We look forward to reporting the spend amounts of our other sponsors,” concluded King.
