ROCKVILLE, MD, UNITED STATES, April 24, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The American Kidney Fund (AKF) today announced a partnership with Satellite Healthcare to develop new educational programs for Satellite Healthcare patients and their family caregivers, and to support AKF’s Kidney Action Day outreach events, which provide kidney health education and free health screenings in communities at increased risk for kidney disease.

Satellite Healthcare is proud to kick off AKF’s Kidney Action Day® 2017 schedule on April 29 in San Jose as a sponsor and host. Because people with a family history of kidney disease are more at risk for the disease, Satellite Healthcare patients will be encouraged to bring their family members to Kidney Action Day to receive free health screenings from AKF.

AKF and Satellite will collaborate on four patient and caregiver webinars on topics relating patient quality of life while undergoing dialysis treatment. The first will feature Dr. Brigitte Schiller, Satellite Healthcare’s chief medical officer, on “Humanizing Dialysis” May 30 at 2 p.m.

“We have long recognized that patients who are well educated about their treatment have a better quality of life and better outcomes,” said Rick Barnett, president and CEO of Satellite Healthcare. “This partnership with the American Kidney Fund enhances our existing patient education programs by engaging patients and their family members in the CKD community of resources.”

The organizations will also produce a quarterly joint educational patient newsletter in English and Spanish that will be distributed to patients at 82 Satellite Healthcare centers.

“The American Kidney Fund and Satellite Healthcare share a deep commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for people living with kidney failure,” said LaVarne A. Burton, president and chief executive officer of the American Kidney Fund. “With the generous support of Satellite Healthcare, we are able to expand our vital educational programs to benefit patients nationwide.”
