H.E. the President of the Republic of the Sudan Omar Al Bashir receives the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan for the second time

H.E. President Omar Al Bashir received today, for the second time, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan, Ms. Marta Ruedas at the Council of Ministers Premises. During the 30-minute meeting, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator briefed H.E. the President of the Republic of the Sudan about the ongoing work of the United Nations in the country and the support offered by the national and international partners.

H.E. President Omar Al Bashir stated that he looks with great interest on the progress gained from the ongoing collaboration between the United Nations and the Government of Sudan. The discussions also focused on the current challenges facing the UN in Sudan, while noting the available opportunities on both the development and humanitarian fronts in light of the recent easing of US sanctions. H.E. the President emphasized to the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator that further efforts are required by both the government and the United Nations to ensure that joint work is undertaken by both parties with full trust, collaboration and intention to optimize all opportunities particularly in accelerating the country’s path to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.  

Ms. Ruedas was appointed as the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for Sudan on 16 August 2015. Ms. Ruedas has more than 25 years of experience with the UN both at headquarters and field level, spanning four continents.
