Retro Consoles for the Modern Gamer: From GameStop's Holiday Wish List to Yours

/EINPresswire.com/ -- GRAPEVINE, TX--(Marketwired - December 08, 2016) - The holidays are quickly approaching and GameStop, a global family of specialty retail brands that makes the most popular technologies affordable and simple, is compiling its holiday wish list -- based on the wish lists of its PowerUp Rewards™ members.

During a time when most desire the latest and greatest, the current craze for the NES Classic and a recent survey of PowerUp Rewardsmembers about holiday shopping, tell us the old school classics never go out of style. Those surveyed shared that there are childhood consoles they still covet. Their 10 most wanted are:

  • Nintendo 64
  • Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
  • Super NES
  • Sony's Original PlayStation
  • Sega Genesis
  • Original Xbox
  • Sega Dreamcast
  • Sega Saturn
  • Game Boy
  • Game Boy Advance

GameStop encourages its customers to check the dust-covered attic, explore Mom and Dad's basement, peek into the boxes in the back of their bedroom closet in search of some of these most iconic video game consoles and games to date and help other holiday shoppers fulfill their holiday wish lists.

Customers can trade in their unwanted retro games, systems and accessories at any GameStop location for store credit. Also, if customers trade select non-retro hardware and tech items now through Friday, December 9, they can get store credit and an additional $50 GameStop gift card.

If a customer is on a quest of their own for items from gaming days of yesteryear, they can relive the 80s or 90s without breaking the bank and visit www.gamestop.com to find some of their beloved games and other hidden gems.

GameStop.com has a treasure trove of more than 1,700 vintage titles, such as Sonic the Hedgehog for Sega Genesis for $9.99, Super Mario Sunshine for GameCube for $29.99, and Super Mario Kart for Nintendo 64 for $49.99.

All retro items have been refurbished at GameStop's Refurbishment Operations Center for inspection, testing and repair before they are made available for purchase.

"Lots of parents enjoy playing video games as much as their children do and it can be even more fun to introduce their children to some of the games they loved as a child," said Jon Haes, senior director of pre-owned merchandise at GameStop. "Even for those parents who haven't picked up a controller in 20 years, some of these gaming options might be a fun blast from the past -- and it's never better than playing old favorites on the systems they were designed for."

For more information about retro consoles, how to purchase, and for trade in information, visit a local GameStop store location or online at www.gamestop.com.
