Tamils in Sri Lanka offer prayers for Hilary Clinton’s victory

JAFFNA, SRI LANKA, November 3, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ --

Tamils in the Northern town of Jaffna in Sri Lanka offered prayers at a famous Hindu temple for Hilary Clinton’s victory in the upcoming Presidential elections in the US.

Led by two Northern Province Council members, Mr. Sivajilingam and Ms. Ananthi Sasitharan - whose husband disappeared seven years ago - broke 1008 coconuts as per Hindu tradition to fulfill their wishes.

These prayers took place at one of the famous Hindu Temples called Nallur Kandasamy Kovil close to Jaffna town. Another worship at a Cathedral also took place.

They were holding a banner “Tamils for Clinton.” Tamils for Clinton is leading a campaign in the US to gather support for Hilary Clinton.

Tamils for Clinton is a political activist group comprised of Americans with the majority being Tamil Americans. They believe that over 145,000 Tamil civilians living in Sri Lanka were massacred during the last weeks of the Sri Lankan ethnic war. They have also observed post war behaviors of the Sri Lankan Singhalese victors, and concluded that Tamils in Sri Lanka will only be safe when this war torn island is divided into two individual self-governing nations.

It is of interest to note that according to UN Internal Review Report on Sri Lanka, around 70,000 Tamil civilians may have been massacred in the last six months of the ethnic war. Also, Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Rayappu Joseph, the Bishop of Mannar in Sri Lanka gave a presentation to the Sri Lankan Lessons Learnt & Reconciliation Commission, exposing to the world that over 146,679 Tamil civilians in the area of Vanni were not accounted for in post-war Sri Lanka.
