/EINPresswire.com/ -- HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwired - October 19, 2016) - The Just Energy Foundation was pleased to present a financial reward to the winning students of the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston (SEFH) Award at a special ceremony this past weekend at Houston's Energy Day Festival.

Presented by James Lewis, President and Co-CEO of Just Energy (pictured), the reward recognizes the students' achievements in robotics, engineering, science, and mathematics (STEM).

The Science and Engineering Fair of Houston (SEFH) is one of the country's largest competitive science and engineering fairs for students in public, private, chartered and home-schooled junior and senior high school. Students in grades seven through 12 get the chance to present their research as well as to meet people from a variety of scientific fields. Promoting project-based learning since 1960, the educational activities sponsored by SEFH complement the rapidly growing need for students to be able to understand and utilize new technology, not just memorize it.

"We are delighted to support educational events and activities like SEFH to advance engineering, mathematics, science and technology education for thousands of Houston and Southeast Texas area students," said Just Energy's James Lewis. "It is a privilege to support youth achievement, helping them gain unique, hands-on experience and exposure to STEM related career choices to position them for future success."

"As one of the largest regional fairs in Texas, the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston is dependent on the involvement of local industry partners to provide our students with resources to further nourish their passion for science," said Dr. Heather Domjan, Executive Director of the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston. "We are appreciative of Just Energy's partnership as their invaluable industry connections will further our outreach efforts and provide knowledgeable judges to interact with our students during our 58th annual Fair in February."

"Without partners like Just Energy, the 2016 Energy Day Festival wouldn't have been possible," said David Holt, President of Consumer Energy Alliance. "Through their generous support, students from across Texas were recognized for their STEM projects, created for the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston. With donations like this, students and teachers can explore fun new ways to learn about various types of STEM education in the energy industry."
