/EINPresswire.com/ -- Leading Online Marketplace Platform Supports Closing the Gender Gap by Helping Educate the Next Generation of STEM Professionals

MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwired - October 13, 2016) - Field Nation, the online marketplace for on-site and on-demand field service solutions, today announced its support of Girls Who Code at the University of Minnesota. The new chapter of Girls Who Code, a national non-profit organization, working to close the gender gap in technology, will teach coding and real-world software skills to middle school and high school girls from the Twin Cities area. The weekly after-school program will be taught by University of Minnesota professors Drs. Chad Myers (Computational Biology, Computer Science), Lauren Mills (Informatics Analyst, Minnesota Supercomputing Institute), Dan Knights (Computational Biology, Computer Science) and Melissa Gardner (Biophysical Modeling, Molecular Biology). Field Nation senior software engineer Andrew Kandels will be a guest lecturer and volunteers, including several Field Nation engineers, will be assisting students in the classroom.

As an emerging growth technology company, Field Nation seeks to close the gender disparity in its industry and help educate the next generation of technology professionals. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, computer and information technology positions are projected to grow at a rate faster than all other occupations' growth averages, adding 488,500 new jobs by 2024. "With the increasing demand for tech professionals, girls who are learning to code today are going to be an integral part of technology in the future and how we can grow as an industry," says Mynul Khan, CEO of Field Nation. "Helping girls be inspired and discover their potential in this field will help close the gender gap and meet the growth demands of computing."
