Nearly four hundred attended the concert, which opened with an introduction to the Foundation for a Drug Free World and the benefitting charities.

“Humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard said that ‘the single most destructive element present in our current culture is drugs,’” said Mistress of Ceremonies Lisa Mansell in her opening comments. “By statistic, what will turn our young people away from these substances is simple – education. So it is in that vein that the parishioners of the Church of Scientology support the Foundation for a Drug Free World, the largest non-governmental drug education program in the world.”

The Executive Director and the President of the Foundation for a Drug Free World – Roxanne Sierro and Julieta Santagostino next spoke about the Foundation’s work in the community, and their partnership with Drug Free America and We Believe in Me. Representatives from these two organizations, Ms. Amy Ronshausen and Mr. Jerry Wunsch also addressed the audience.

Drug Free America Foundation, Inc. is a drug prevention and policy organization committed to developing, promoting and sustaining national and international policies and laws that will reduce illegal drug use and drug addiction.

We Believe In Me was founded with the goal of providing a better foundation for student athletes, focusing on professional training, education, family, community events, and volunteering. Their purpose is to equip students with the right tools and life skills to further their education and sports goals.

The concert then began in high gear - featuring a mix of musical styles. As an example, Ms. Renee had the crowd enrapt with “Son of a Preacher Man”; Ms. Jones had the crowd on their feet for “I Will Always Love You” and Mr. Campbell brought the house down with his a capella rendition of “Beautiful World”.

The concert set was followed by a raffle and a dance set. More than $20,000 was raised, which will be divided between the two charities.

The Fort Harrison is the international religious retreat for the Church of Scientology, regularly hosting charity events for community groups.
