National Data Repository (NDR) International Meeting Scheduled for June 2017

/EINPresswire.com/ -- Energistics is pleased to announce the next National Data Repository (NDR) meeting will be held June 6 - 8, 2017 in Stavanger, Norway. The 13th meeting of delegates from over 30 countries will be comprised of government regulators, petroleum industry experts, and others who will join to discuss the collection and storage of increasing volumes of data associated with oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) around the world. NDR meetings are an opportunity for regulators and those involved in NDRs from around the world to get together and collaborate around best practices for storing and re-using this data.

Oil and gas deposits are part of a nation's wealth and E&P companies are trusted to steward those resources on behalf of the country. The regulator's role, and through them, the country's NDR, is to preserve that data for future re-use. Governments and industry have long realized that collecting and storing data should not be treated as a competitive activity, but a collaboration between organizations. As a result, the NDR's collaborative activities have shown that when data can be preserved and reused costs are reduced, data quality is improved and risks are lowered during resource exploration.

Attendees will include those from countries with deep experience of harnessing national oil & gas data, while others will be from countries that are just starting down the regulator/NDR path as exploration opens up in their countries. They are looking to learn from the others with more experience, as well as hear from vendors as to what solutions and services are available.

Ross Philo, President and CEO of Energistics, said, "With the challenging state of our industry, finding ways to improve our productivity, and ensure that our decisions are made with the best possible information, requires having access to all available data for a given area. The important work carried out by an NDR ensures that oil and gas data is retained, preserved and re-used in order to maximize the economic benefit for their respective countries."

Energistics is a global, non-profit, membership organization that serves as the facilitator, custodian and advocate for the development and adoption of technical open data exchange standards in the upstream oil and gas industry. Uniquely designed to unite upstream industry professionals in a neutral and collaborative facilitation environment, Energistics membership consists of integrated, independent and national oil companies, oilfield service companies, software vendors, system integrators, regulatory agencies and the global standards user community.
