The 2016 Taoyuan Land Art Festival Kicks Off

/EINPresswire.com/ -- The 2016 Taoyuan Land Art Festival kicked off at Sinwu and Bade districts in Taoyuan City, northern Taiwan, with 37 pieces of outdoor installation artworks from 32 artistic groups participating in the annual event, which will run through September 25.

This year's festival, the fourth since 2013, featuring the unique landscapes such as stone tidal weirs, ponds, sea shore and natural ecosystems in Taoyuan City, is scheduled to hold 74 art performances and workshops during the 17-day event to provide a variety of activities, according to the city government.

Taiwanese renowned artist Lin Shuen-Long has also unveiled his latest large-scale creation named "Eternal Sea, "which is constructed from over 1,000 pieces of locally-grown bamboo and symbolizes the idea of continually growing and developing, at the Taoyuan Land Art Festival.

"The Eternal Sea," which is inspired by the Yongan fishing port, serves to connect people with their land and boost the public's awareness of environmental and demographic issues, said Lin, whose artworks have appeared in several prominent public art festivals such as the Setouchi Triennale in Japan over the past years.

The Land Art Festival, a cultural gala, is to integrate communities and make the communities more cosmopolitan by introducing arts, said Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan at a press conference on Sept. 5.

Meanwhile, Taiwanese artists Hsu min-sheng's "Crab" and Fang Marvin-minto's "Fisherman" are among the other 16 outdoor installation artworks on display at the Sinwu's exhibition area of the festival.
