Vista Clinical Announces Affordable Same-Day Testing for Zika Virus

Central Florida Lab Now Offers Fast, Accurate and Cost-Efficient Testing for the Virus at More Than Two Dozen Clinic Locations Statewide

ORLANDO, FL -- Sep 7, 2016 -- Vista Clinical Diagnostics, a laboratory and diagnostic services provider in Central Florida, announces today the availability of a commercial Zika test in Florida. Offered at more than two dozen patient service centers throughout Florida, the $99 test provides expected same-day results at an affordable price.

"Accurate and proactive testing is a key component in diagnosing, tracking, and limiting the transmission of Zika virus," said Davian Santana, president of Vista Clinical Diagnostics. "Vista's $99 price is a continued commitment to our founding principle of affordable, quality healthcare."

Hosting more than one-fourth of the nation's reported Zika cases, Florida has need of testing that will help monitor the virus' presence. As of September 1, Florida had the capacity to test 5,755 people for the active Zika virus. The projected estimate for the amount of time it takes to eradicate Zika has yet to be determined, but with the end of mosquito season still months away, officials are worried about the impact the virus will have on tourism and the economy as a whole.

Vista Clinical will neither be collecting nor processing any insurance information for Zika test payment, and the out-of-pocket fee is all-inclusive. Other labs typically offer this test at a price point of anywhere from $500 - $780, with an expected turnaround time of three to five days.

Aptima Zika Virus assay, developed by Hologic, Inc., is an RT-PCR molecular lab test designed to help detect Zika virus infections in humans from serum and urine samples. The test should be administered within a week of symptom onset. Waiting to test for the virus could result in a false negative, which creates a missing link as public health care officials attempt to track and limit the spread of infection. The FDA has authorized use of this test under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).

Patients can receive the Zika test by walking in to any of Vista Clinical's patient service centers. Wait times typically average under seven minutes, and total visit times are usually less than 15 minutes. Location addresses, hours, and phone numbers are available at www.vista-clinical.com/locations. Vista Clinical also offers in-home specimen collection with its mobile phlebotomy division, Vista Mobile Services (VMS).
