Manufacturing Jobs in Georgia Climb for a Sixth Straight Year

/EINPresswire.com/ -- EVANSTON, IL--(Marketwired - August 04, 2016) - Manufacturing employment in Georgia rose for a sixth straight year, though at a slower rate than in previous years, reports the 2017 Georgia Manufacturers Register®, an industrial database and directory published by Manufacturers' News, Inc. (MNI) Evanston, IL. According to MNI's industrial database, manufacturers in Georgia added 2,188 new jobs between May 2015 and May 2016, or a half percent.

Georgia's 9,233 manufacturers employ 489,346 in the state, reports MNI. Since May of 2010, Georgia has added 23,399 jobs, or 5%, recovering 27% of jobs lost during the recession.

"The past six years has given rise to a nearly thirty-percent jump in Georgia's auto sector employment as well as a five-percent overall gain. An abundance of capital funding, skilled and affordable labor pool, low business costs, as well as ideal infrastructure and global access, have all contributed to the state's success," says Tom Dubin, President of the Evanston, IL-based publishing company, which has been surveying industry since 1912. "However, like many otherwise thriving states, gains have slowed over the past year as global competition and a strong dollar continue to challenge growth."

According to Manufacturers' News, employment gains were led by the transportation equipment sector, which climbed 2.3% over the year, and 29% over the past six years, ranking third in the state for industrial employment with 46,455 jobs.
