The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and Plan International Sudan an international non-governmental organization, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation and coordination in the provision of humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable people in Sudan.  .

WFP Representative and Country Director Adnan Khan and Plan Sudan Country Director Munier Mohammed signed the MoU in the presence of officials of both organizations at a ceremony held in WFP’s premises in Khartoum.

This MoU aims create the framework for a creative, dynamic and strategic partnership between WFP and Plan international Sudan.

“Pleased today to renew the MoU between WFP and Plan International Sudan for the second period 2016-2018 .This strategic partnership is a cornerstone for complementarity and ability to expand our reach to the most vulnerable children and in particular girls, their families and communities.Looking forward for the operational plan that transform this MoU into practical actions” Said Plan International Sudan Country Director Munier Mohammed.

Areas of cooperation and collaborative work include, but not limited to, food security, nutrition, education community resilience building and emergency response and capacity building of local NGO’s and community based organizations at national and state levels.

“WFP is pleased to sign this MoU with Plan International Sudan, one of the biggest international non-government organisations working in Sudan. Having Plan International Sudan as one of our partners on the ground, we are strengthening our ability to reach all those in need of our assistance,” said WFP Representative and Country Director Adnan Khan. 

In 2016, WFP plans to assist 4.6 million vulnerable people in Sudan through general food distribution, school meals, a nutrition programme, as well as food assistance for assets and training. To achieve this, WFP relies on its partners including international, national and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs). WFP is currently working with 74 partners of which 54 are national and local NGOs.
