Installed at Chinatown Park, PlayCubes Provide an Opportunity for Free Play on The Greenway

Originally introduced in the 1960s by Architect Richard Dattner, an exclusive partnership between Dattner and Playworld is giving new life to the once popular playground.

The new kid-friendly feature in Chinatown Park will be highlighted during The Greenway-wide celebration on May 19 from 5-8 p.m. The kick-off to The Greenway's Public Art Season will include performances, food trucks, a free Boston Calling Block Party in Dewey Square and meet-and-greets with artists whose work is on display on The Greenway.

"The importance of outdoor play in the formation of a healthy childhood is well documented. Yet the concept is fast nearing extinction in urban areas across the country," said Missy Benson, a play advocate for Playworld. PlayCubes at Chinatown Park is an extension of the Design Museum Boston's Extraordinary Playscapes exhibition, featuring over 40 pioneering play spaces from around the world. Extraordinary Playscapes opens on June 8 at the Boston Society of Architects (BSA).
