How do you create an organization that more than 80,000 Associates around the world call home? How do you build on a history that started in 1882 and continue to foster a strong culture and consistent business success—for over a century? What’s the secret sauce?

The truth? Our people. At Mars, we continuously look for opportunities to bring The Five Principles to life. That’s why we put so much emphasis on our most important ingredient: our Associates.

Chase Ubernosky, a process engineer who has worked with Mars Chocolate for three years, confirms: “The Principles are not a poster on a wall that you easily forget. We bring it throughout our day and our work—it’s all about doing the right thing.” For Ubernosky, who is part of a team that oversees the production of 4.5 million Snickers bars a day, the freedom to make decisions is inspiring. “We’re encouraged to make intelligent risks—if I have an idea that I want to execute, it’s not a long drawn out process—I can make that impact right away.”

We want to create and nurture relationships, and connect to our Associates in order to help develop careers—not just jobs. We have established programs that keep our Associates energized and excited about their daily work, and on track to realize their life ambitions. “Mutuality is so important for Mars,” says Ubernosky. “While we work hard, the company is also committed to give back to the Associates and the community around us.
