Forsight Vision, Ltd., Holds Free Kids Event for Great Glasses Play Day

LONG GROVE, Ill., April 24, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Forsight Vision, Ltd. will be holding a free kids event for Great Glasses Play Day on May 7, 2016. The event will celebrate children who wear glasses or contacts and those who experience vision impairment with fun events like crafts, a coloring contest, refreshments, raffles and more.

The Great Glasses Play Day is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization that holds an event each year during the first weekend in May. The Great Glasses Play Day event is intended to celebrate children and the technologies that allow them to see better. The event also helps promote eye health care by raising awareness for early detection and treatment of childhood vision issues.

Early childhood vision impairment often goes undetected, which can lead to serious vision problems for these children. According to the Great Glasses Play Day organization, around 1 in 20 preschool children and 1 in 10 younger school-aged children need some form of vision correction. However, a majority of these children do not receive the eye care they need because parents are either unaware or do not have access to vision care.

“Early treatment and follow up exams can help save a child’s vision. By taking part in the 5th annual Great Glasses Play Day, we are trying to encourage local parents to get early eye exams and vision screenings by an eye care professional,” says Dr. Todd Cohan, founder of Forsight Vision, Ltd. “So many eye issues go undiagnosed and untreated. By raising awareness, we can try to prevent unnecessary blindness and other vision impairment in children.”

In addition to raising awareness and educating local parents, this event will celebrate and support children who wear glasses, contacts, or patches and those who experience other vision impairment issues. Forsight Vision, Ltd. has many activities planned for the free event, including crafts, a coloring contest, raffle and refreshments. The facility will also be offering free glasses cleaning kits and free transitions lenses upgrade with the purchase of glasses at the event.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held at Forsight Vision, Ltd.’s facility located at 4160 IL Route 83, Ste. 107 in Long Grove, IL. For more information about the event, visit their Facebook page or call (847) 955-9393.
