HRMR, first American law firm in Myanmar, expands its Government Affairs Practice

U Kyaw Hoe, NLD’s Main Counsel and member of its Central Committee, will lead HRMR's Government Affairs Practice

YANGON, YANGON REGION, MYANMAR, March 14, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- HERZFELD RUBIN MEYER & ROSE LAW FIRM LIMITED (HRMR), the first American law firm in Myanmar, today announced the expansion of the HRMR Government Affairs Practice to assist clients working with Myanmar’s new government led by the National League for Democracy (NLD). U Kyaw Hoe, NLD’s Main Counsel and a member of its Central Committee, will be leading the HRMR Government Affairs Practice, in addition to leading the Litigation Practice. U Kyaw Hoe has represented Daw Aung San Su Kyi and U Nyan Win, the Secretary-General of the NLD, as well as its spokesperson.

U Kyaw Hoe, who is HRMR’s Managing Director, will direct a team of professionals who, for over twenty years, have been guiding clients through the complexities of operating in emerging and frontier markets within the ASEAN, as well as elsewhere. The HRMR attorneys’ sensitivity and expertise allows us to deal with the legal, cultural, political and regulatory issues unique to Myanmar in order to help our clients succeed with confidence and efficiency.

HRMR is also pleased to announce that U Kyaw Hoe will speak in Washington DC on Monday, April 18th, at a conference on investment in Myanmar organized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. During his visit to the U.S., U Kyaw Hoe will meet with U.S. government officials, private industry representatives and associations interested in Myanmar.

"We're excited to have been associated with U Kyaw Hoe for almost three years, and to bring his problem-solving expertise from the many years in opposition to assisting our clients with a variety of government concerns and issues before the new democratically-elected government of Myanmar," said Eric Rose, HRMR’s Lead Director. Said Practice Chair U Kyaw Hoe, "Our clients can now rely on HRMR for assistance in dealing with new NLD-led government at the Union level, as well as at the local, regional and state levels. Given that most government offices in the country will see a large influx of NLD representatives, our work will help improve their efficiency and expertise by bringing the depth of experience the firm’s attorneys have acquired over the years in economies in transition."

Since 1979, U Kyaw Hoe has defended the interests of both individuals and corporations in civil and criminal matters, including corporate and commercial litigation (corporate organization and investment registration, commercial/contract transaction, joint ventures), real estate (land & tenure, partnership, housing, land confiscation, agricultural development), intellectual property (trademark, copyright, industrial design and patent) disputes, labor and employment (employment contracts, union matters, structuring compensation), wealth management (trusts & estates, wills, division of property) and commercial arbitration. His practice has taken him to almost every corner of Myanmar, numerous times before administrative government agencies, appellate courts and the Supreme Court. His clients have included domestic and international corporations, individual businessmen, NGOs, civil society members, members of both chambers of Parliament as well as opposition parties, local and international media. U Kyaw Hoe has advised numerous clients on the subject of risk management and approaches to litigation or arbitration in Myanmar. An expert in constitutional and human rights law, he has represented all the Myanmar ethnic opposition parties, leaders of the 8888 Generation movement, All-Burmese Students Democratic Front, All Arakanese Student and Youth Congress, Rakhine state groups and other political dissidents, many of whom are now parliamentarians at various levels of government.
