M-WERC Releases Energy Storage Roadmap

Research Findings Point to Huge Economic Opportunity for Region

/EINPresswire.com/ -- MENOMONEE FALLS, WI -- (Marketwired) -- 12/15/15 -- Hosted by M-WERC member and global energy storage innovator EnSync Energy Systems (formerly ZBB), M-WERC executive director and CEO Alan Perlstein unveiled an online version of the organization's energy storage systems industry roadmap.

The findings predict the global market for energy storage systems to grow by nearly $20 billion from $5.9 billion in 2013 to more than $25 billion in 2025.

The roadmap focuses on grid-connected energy storage, extending previous work to develop strategic roadmaps focused on distributed energy resources and systems, and energy efficiency technology, systems, and services. Event host EnSync Energy Systems is an example of a regional company leading the path of innovation in the dynamic distributed energy resources and energy storage industry.

"The research confirms that the energy storage industry is going to grow and our region's employers and researchers are positioned well to lead the effort," said Perlstein.

"We're excited to help coordinate these players as well as position the region for growth by developing the human capital needed to create new products and new ideas through programs like WERCBench Labs."

The energy storage systems industry roadmap project involved a large cross section of M-WERC members. In addition to executives from EnSync and M-WERC, the project's steering committee also included:

William Mastoris - We Energies
John Schaff - Johnson Controls
Dave Wilkens - ViZn Energy

Randy Bertram - WMEP
Bart Riley - QuantumScape
Troy Miller - S&C Electric
Jake Edie - S&C Electric

"The research shows that M-WERC's Midwest region is strongly positioned for success in the distributed energy management and energy storage industry, a key factor in our company's decision to locate our headquarters here," said EnSync Vice Chairman of the Board, Eric Apfelbach during the announcement.
