Bloomberg to Power New York Data Center with 2.9 MW of Solar Energy from SunEdison

December 2015 - Bloomberg and SunEdison have agreed on a power purchase agreement to power Bloomberg 's Rockland County, New York-based data center with 2.9 megawatts (MW) of solar energy. The project will generate enough power to offset over 5 percent of the data center's annual electricity use while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 11,600 metric tons. The deal will save Bloomberg more than $2 million from energy savings over the life of the agreement. Under the agreement, SunEdison will supply Bloomberg with solar power through New York state's "remote net metering" program, which allows customers to purchase solar energy without installing an on-site solar system. The energy is generated within the same region as the customer and delivered through existing power grids. SunEdison will develop, operate and maintain the project.
