Eric Lefkofsky - and Wife Liz Support Funding of Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago's New Research Hospital

/EINPresswire.com/ -- CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - December 03, 2015) - Groupon Chairman and Co-founder Eric Lefkofsky and his wife Liz have donated $1 million to the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago's new Ability Institute of RIC, an advanced state-of-the-art research facility. It is designed to bridge the gap between how physical medicine and rehabilitation are performed today and in the future. Gifted through the Lefkofsky Family Foundation, the donation includes naming rights to the reception space in the pediatric outpatient area.

Ranked #1 by both U.S. News and World Report and the U.S. National Institutes of Health, the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) is one of the nation's top providers of comprehensive physical medicine and rehabilitative care for patients from around the world. The new Ability Institute of RIC will incorporate a radical new synergy of research and clinical care called the AbilityLab™. Unlike traditional "therapy gyms" that are limited in scope, the AbilityLab's integrated care model will allow patients to benefit from the instant exchange of information between scientists, physicians, therapists, engineers, and innovators.

Projected to open in early 2017, the Ability Institute of RIC, located at 355 East Erie Street in Chicago just two blocks south of the current hospital, will increase the research space significantly, encompassing five different labs in a 1.2 million square-foot, 242-bed facility. In addition to supporting causes in education, human rights and arts and culture, Liz and Eric Lefkofsky have placed an emphasis on medical care and research through support given to other notable institutions such as the Mayo Clinic and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.
