Unique device provides very accurate measurement of UV Index

DAEJEON, SOUTH KOREA, September 11, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Genicom, a leading company for UV light sensing solution, has released a digital UV sensor that provides high accuracy for UV index measurement with AlGaN-based sensor technology. In recent, many digital UV sensors have Si-based technology and it’s accuracy is not good for UV index because the detection spectrum is quite different from Ery-thermal reaction curve that is a definition of UV index. However, Genicom’s AlGaN-based UV sensor has very similar spectrum so it is most accurate solution for high precision UV index monitoring.

The digital UV sensor (GUVB-C31SM) combines a UV photodiode and a signal-processing IC in a compact 2.0mm×2.3mm×1.4mm 4-pin COB package. It converts measurements of hazard solar UV light intensity into a digital read-out for UV index with 16-bit resolution.

It may be widely used for UV Index detection in products such as smartphones, smartwatches, wearable devices, weather stations and etc. The sensor saves space by integrating the circuitry needed for these applications into one compact unit. Also it has 4 modes (normal/sleep/auto shutdown/shutdown) for power management to reduce power consumption. The supply voltage is 2.2V to 3.6V and I2C slave interface is up to 400 KHz.

The GUVB-C31SM offers high precision with excellent performance by detecting exact UV index spectrum. Samples are available now, with volume production scheduled for Q4 2015.
