Africa, Caribbean, Pacific | Brussels, 26 June 2015

A meeting of the Joint Ministerial Trade Committee (JMTC) is taking place in Brussels today, bringing together ministers and other representatives from countries of Africa, Caribbean and Pacific regions, as well as the European Union.

Under the chairmanship of the EU Commissioner for Trade, Cecilia Malmström and the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Guinea, His Excellency Marc Yombouno, the participants discussed:

  • the current situation as regards the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs);
  • WTO issues of relevance to the ACP countries;
  • EU trade negotiations with other partners;
  • other trade topics such as trade in commodities, product-specific requirements and the post-2015 development agenda.

The Joint Ministerial Trade Committee has been set up under the Cotonou Partnership Agreement. Its annual meetings serve as a forum for trade dialogue, without any decision-making prerogatives.
