SMITHTOWN, NY, UNITED STATES, May 29, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Four storytellers, each with a different perspective on the hilarious and heartbreaking events that happen in schools, school systems and the world of learning take the stage in the June 20 performance of (mostly) TRUE THINGS at Performing Arts Studio of New York, 224 E. Main St., Port Jefferson, NY 11777. The show begins at 7 pm and tickets are $10, available online at Brown Paper Tickets. Reservations can be made by calling 631-366-4265. Payment at the door is cash only.

(mostly) TRUE THINGS features true stories - with a twist - told live, without notes. Each show presents four storytellers who share an 8-10 minute story from their own life. Only one of them is telling the unvarnished truth. The other 3 change some details or include carefully crafted little white lies. None of these changes impact the emotional arc of the story, so this show is an evening of authenticity, heart, and lots of comedy rooted in real life experiences. By the end of the evening, the whole truth comes out, with the help of the audience.

June 20 storytellers:

Dr. Debbie Zelizer has worked in the School of Health, Technology and Management at Stony Brook University since 1989. Currently she is chair of the Health Science Dept and program director of the Health Science major.

Martha Kahan is a high school social worker living on the East End of Long Island. She is an avid fan of storytelling podcasts and live shows. This marks her debut on the performing side of the microphone.

Jude Treder-Wolff is a writer/performer and singer/songwriter who performs at The Moth, on the RISK! podcast, and created (mostly) TRUE THINGS to promote the art of storytelling on Long Island. Her solo storytelling show, Crazytown: my first psychothpath, was performed in 2 successful runs at Actors Theatre Workshop, at The Pit-The Peoples Improv, Broadway Comedy Club, and The Charles B Wang Center at Stonybrook University. It was selected for the 2013 Midtown International Theater Festival and the 2012 Chicago and San Francisco Fringe Festivals. She is a comic and cabaret performer who has performed solo shows at cabaret and comedy clubs in New York City and around the country.

Storytelling shows are not only important and entertaining ways to showcase local people from all walks of life but also boosts local business. The Performing Arts Studio of New York is located within walking distance from a hundred restaurants and great shopping.
