Holly Springs school hosts a week-long series of events as an official partner of the 2015 North Carolina Science Festival

HOLLY SPRINGS, NC, USA, March 5, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The New School Montessori Center will present Science Week from Monday, April 20th to Saturday, April 25, at the school’s Holly Springs campus and other locations. Science Week is an official event of the 2015 North Carolina Science Festival.

School Director Julie Schroer said, "We are delighted that our inaugural Science Week has been chosen as an official event of the 2015 North Carolina Science Festival. The Festival is consistent with our own philosophy, built on Maria Montessori’s vision that science is as much about imagination, beauty and poetry as it is about experiments and data. It is in that spirit that we celebrate our area’s science and scientists in partnership with the North Carolina Science Festival."

Science Week includes private events for school students and parents as well as other events open to the public. "We expect our variety of events and convenient location will appeal to a wide audience and attract strong attendance from Holly Springs and surrounding areas," said Ms. Schroer. Highlights of Science Week include:

Public events
• Students' Science Exhibition: Student posters of selected science projects (Saturday April 25, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)
• Science Cafe: Informal setting for a Q and A session with a scientist. Guest speaker is renowned scientist, inventor and engineer, Chuck Pell. (Wednesday April 22, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Tir na nOg, Raleigh)
• Food for Thought — Lunch with a scientist: Participants discuss research and careers and with a working scientist. Donations are requested to cover the cost of food. (Date TBD)
• Health Fair: Health partner Tricity Family Medicine & Urgent Care Clinic will offer free checkups including blood pressure screening, a health questionnaire, and diet and exercise recommendations. (Date TBD)

School-only events
• Dissect Tech: Supervised by a qualified engineer, students take apart gizmos, gadgets and widgets to figure out what makes them tick. (Monday April 20, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.)
