DOE’s 2015 Tribal Renewable Energy Webinar Series to Kick Off Jan. 28

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Indian Energy Policy and Programs, in partnership with Western Area Power Administration, will continue its sponsorship of the Tribal Renewable Energy Webinar Series in 2015.

The series is part of DOE’s coordinated efforts to provide education and capacity-building for Tribes and tribal energy resource development organizations. Attendees will learn from renewable energy development experts and hear directly from tribal energy champions and project leaders about the process for developing tribal energy projects, including benefits, challenges, and lessons learned. Each monthly webinar will focus on a different aspect of the project development process as well as draw on existing online tools and resources to help guide Tribes along the path to greater energy security, improved climate change adaptation and resiliency, and more stable energy costs.

This year’s series will kick off on Jan. 28, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mountain Time with Best Practices in Developing a Tribal Strategic Energy Plan. Attendees will learn from experts who have overcome typical barriers with strategic energy plans and used community participation to gain support and ownership.  Speakers include:

  • Laverne Kyriss, Managing Director for the League of Extraordinary Trainers, a partnership of public participation practitioners who provide training and consultation to a variety of corporate, governmental, and nonprofit clients
  • Jeff Fuller, Director of Client Services for The Energy Authority, a firm that helps tribes develop strategic plans
  • Presenters from the Quinault Indian Nation who were instrumental in developing the Nation's comprehensive biomass strategy and demonstrating how it fits into the tribe’s strategic plan.

There is no charge to attend, but registration is required. Register now for this and other 2015 Tribal Renewable Energy Series webinars.
