Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Expresses Condolences on the Death of Former Minister Joe Walsh

The Secretary General and staff of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine have expressed their deep condolences on the death of former Minister for Agriculture and Food Joe Walsh.

Joe Walsh, who was Minister for Agriculture and Food in three Governments and served for ten years in that position, was well liked and much respected in the Department and in the wider agri-food industry.  He was greatly admired amongst his Ministerial colleagues on the EU Council of Agriculture Ministers where he made a major contribution most notably in the reform of the CAP in 2003.

He was calm and reassuring at times of crisis, not least in his steady and assured handling of the Foot and Mouth disease in 2001.

The Department wishes to express its sincerest condolences to Joe’s family, his wife Marie, and their children Ronan, Denise, Killian, Brian and Kate.
