Houston Food Bank Reduces Electricity Cost by Installing Solar

October 2014 - Houston Food Bank is ready to serve hungry children, seniors, and adults in its community with the installation of a solar array on its 5,300 square foot roof. With the completion of the 280 solar panel installation, the energy savings are expected to fund over two meals per hour for the hungry in the community every year. The funding for the solar array comes from a $200,000 donation made by the Green Mountain Energy Sun Club and NRG Energy. Green Mountain Energy Sun Club is a program that donates solar power to non-profit organizations. Since 2002, the program has donated more than $3 million to help install over 700 kilowatts of solar power.
