BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, UNITED STATES, September 9, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The purpose of this fund is to help promote and support the education and career of young Black and White journalists, writers, and Civil Rights lawyers, with a promise that they will grow into an army of professionals who can be deployed locally, and nationally to research, cover, and report on the news, also to provide legal services and assistance in situations such as the one that developed in Ferguson Missouri between August 9 and August 20, 2014, following the shooting death of unarmed 18-year old, Michael Brown by Ferguson police. The killing of Michael Brown was followed days later by the shooting death of a 25 year-old young man in St. Louis Missouri, and preceded just 3 weeks earlier by the chock-hold killing of Eric Garner, a 43 years old father of 6, in Staten Island, by New York police.

2014 - 2015 GOAL: $50,000

We will award this fund in the form of scholarships to support the following:

• The education and training of investigative reporters and writers who can investigate, cover and report on events such as Ferguson, in a way that can protect all, including police, journalists, demonstrators, and the public at the community.
• A campaign to bring about fundamental reform police training at the level of police academy, as well as community policing, and promote police community relations
• Reform in the justice system and the courts
• Training of young lawyers, particularly in the Black community, to help protect the rights of people arrested during protests and demonstrations, and to pursue civil rights actions on behalf of citizens caught up in police misconduct, abuse, harassment, and Civil Rights violations.

HOW THIS FUND WILL BE AWARDED

Scholarships from this fund will be awarded to low-income and minority students and young graduates, or those who aspire to work in those fields, to support the following:
