CALOUNDRA, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA, June 26, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- THE life-changing decision to swap his house for a helicopter is about to pay off for Brett Martin as he prepares to secure his Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL-H).— Brett Martin
The 37-year-old Airways Aviation student spent 13 years working as a registered nurse in both Australia and London but made the bold decision to chase his dream of becoming a helicopter pilot after listening to a pilot on a podcast in 2012.
With the support of his understanding partner Mr Martin sold his Brisbane house and began his journey towards achieving his goal.
“Ever since I can remember I have wanted to be a pilot but I never thought I could afford to get into aviation,” Mr Martin said.
“I’ve always had that passion for flying and after listening to the podcast I made the decision to go for it.
“I thought I had to have a go or I would regret it for the rest of my life.”
Mr Martin has since completed his theory course while still working three days a week as a nurse and is just 15 hours away from securing his licence.
The Mansfield resident is based at Airways Aviation’s Caloundra base and said the company’s proven record attracted his interest.
“I was told of a lot of great things about Airways Aviation by people from the industry and knew it would give me the best possible start when I finished,” Mr Martin said.
“It has a really good operation, the course layout suited me and it has a reputation for being the best.”
Mr Martin will be one of many Airways Aviation students to take advantage of its Tangalooma scenic operation in the next couple of weeks to gain real world experience in the industry.
“I’m really looking forward to it and it’s a beautiful place to fly over,” Mr Martin said.
“It will be a really good experience and will no doubt help that transition into the work force.”
Mr Martin said he would take up any opportunities across the country once he secured his licence.
