On June 13, 2014, NRG Energy, Inc., a Princeton, NJ-based renewable energy developer and the Boeing Company collaboratively completed 6 MW Community 1 Solar Generating Facility, which is expected to generate electricity to power approximately 2,200 California homes through a community solar program. The project was developed by Sol Orchard, in collaboration with the Center for Energy Sustainability at San Diego State University's (SDSU) Imperial Valley Campus. The Imperial Irrigation District plans to purchase the solar energy generated by the facility, under a 25-year power purchase agreement, and sell it at a competitive rate to community solar program participants. The Boeing Company provided engineering, procurement, and construction for the Community 1 project.
