Green Power EMC Plans to Purchase 20 MW of Solar Power in Georgia (GA)

Green Power EMC, a renewable energy supplier in Georgia, plans to purchase the output from a new 20 megawatt (MW) solar project, owned and operated by Silicon Ranch Corporation, in southeast Georgia. The solar project is expected to generate electricity to supply 38 Georgia Electric Membership Corporations (EMC's) which include about 3,000 households. The ground-mounted project is expected to be the largest solar generating facility in the state. The facility will begin construction this year near Hazlehurst, GA and produce electricity beginning in late 2015. Upon completion, the solar array will generate more than 43,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually. Under the agreement, Green Power EMC will receive all the energy produced by the solar project over a 25-year period.
