Xcel Energy and SunPower Partner to Build 50-MW Power Plant in Colorado
Xcel Energy, an investor-owned utility, and SunPower, a designer and manufacturer of solar systems, have signed a power purchase agreement to build a 50-megawatt (MW) photovoltaic power plant in San Luis Valley, Colorado. Xcel Energy estimates that the electricity needs of approximately 13,500 average Colorado homes will be served by the plant. SunPower expects to start construction in 2015 and to achieve full commercial operation by the end of 2016.
