Open Traditional Reindeer Herders’ Competitions take place in Nadym
Gazprom Dobycha Nadym took part in holding the 19th Open Traditional Reindeer Herders’ Competitions in Nadym for the cup of Yamal’s Governor. The company provided financial and organizational support and prepared a special prize.
Over 160 reindeer herders participated in the event. They competed in triple national jumps, stick pulling, vaults over sleds, skiing relay and tynyan throwing onto a khorey (throwing a lasso onto a wooden pole).
Guardians of hearth and home also had a chance to demonstrate their skills. Within the Nomadic Family contest women competed in arts and crafts, the knowledge of native language, culture and traditions.
In the most exciting event of the feast – sled reindeer race – reindeer herders from the Nadym District won all the prizes. Alexander Khatanzeyev finished first. Sergey Menshikov, Director General of Gazprom Dobycha Nadym awarded the winner a special prize – a snowmobile.
According to Sergey Menshikov, the company traditionally provides support to organizing reindeer herders’ and fishermen’s feasts in four municipalities of the area: the Nadym, Yamal, Pur and Priuralye Districts of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area. This cooperation will go on.
Background
Gazprom Dobycha Nadym is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom. Its core businesses are gas and gas condensate production and treatment.
It is the first gas production company set up in the northern region of Western Siberia to develop and operate the Medvezhye oil, gas and condensate field. Nowadays, Gazprom Dobycha Nadym is also developing the Yubileynoye, Yamsoveyskoye and Bovanenkovskoye fields. The company holds the subsurface use license for the Kharasaveyskoye gas and condensate field which is currently at the pre-development stage.

The company comprises 12 operating gas field facilities and 15 specialized branches. The annual volume of natural gas production totals some 60 billion cubic meters. Gazprom Dobycha Nadym introduced the ISO 14001:2004 environmental management system.
