Dragonfest Convention to feature host of action celebrities

Burbank, Calif. - (NewMediaWire) - February 06, 2014 - The Martial Arts History Museum's DRAGONFEST convention is scheduled to feature some of the most renowned martial arts celebrities and action stars in Hollywood. From Kung Fu Panda's adorable Mr. Ping, which is voiced by film veteran James Hong to action star Lorenzo Lamas to kickboxing pioneer Benny “the jet” Urquidez, there are more and more being added to the list. Dragonfest, which is the West Coasts' largest martial arts expo, will be hosted at the Holiday Inn Media Center grandballroom on May 18.

Dragonfest, which was a well-known gathering that lasted for nearly a decade, closed its doors around 2004. To date, it was the largest convention of its kind and featured a number of celebrities and martial arts icons. This year the expo is being restarted by the Martial Arts History Museum with the goal of raising funds to support the museum.

“This was a great event and people still talk about it today,” notes museum president Michael Matsuda. “In just two weeks after our announcement of bringing back this huge event, we have nearly sold all our tables and booths. Based on our response, we are expecting a large crowd. I think this will do a lot for the city of Burbank.”

The Dragonfest convention is designed to represent the theme of the museum. Dividing into four sections, it will feature films, book authors, artists and celebrities.

To date, the museum has received commitments from James Hong, Lorenzo Lamas, Cynthia Rothrock, Eric Lee, Art Camacho, Donnie Williams, Peter Kwong, Jerry Fisher, Tak Kubota, Carrie Ogawa-Wong, Bill Ryusaki, Doug Wong, Benny “the jet” Urquidez, Peter Cunningham, Simon Rhee, Sol Kaihewalu, Don Baird, John Kreng, Fumio Demura and even Emmy Award-winning artist, Paul Wee.

“Our films area will feature production companies showing their new film projects, our authors area will include the latest books released by martial arts authors, the art section will include anime, crafts, movie props, special effects and more. There will also be a number of booths where people can purchase unique items, t-shirts and more,” says Matsuda.

Tickets and information are available on the Martial Arts History Museum's website at www.Mamuseum.com. Booths are still available as well as sponsorships for the event. The museum is a non-profit 501c3 organization.
