Youth, Students, and Educators: Secretary Kerry and Vice President Joe Biden To Deliver Remarks on 100,000 Strong in the Americas
Secretary of State John Kerry and Vice President Joe Biden will deliver remarks on 100,000 Strong in the Americas on Friday, January 17, 2014, at 2:45 p.m. at the Department of State. The event will also feature remarks by Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes, Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs Roberta S. Jacobson, and Special Advisor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend.
President Barack Obama launched 100,000 Strong in the Americas in March 2011 to increase international study between the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean. By increasing recruitment efforts, developing university linkages, and forging new partnerships, the goal of the initiative is for 100,000 students from Latin America and the Caribbean to study in the United States, and 100,000 students from the United States to study in Latin America and the Caribbean each year. In their remarks, the Vice President and Secretary Kerry will announce several new significant steps the United States has taken to build public-private partnerships in support of achieving this goal.
100,000 Strong in the Americas will enable a new generation to reach across borders to address common challenges and seek out new opportunities. The U.S. Government is implementing 100,000 Strong in the Americas through partnerships with foreign governments, universities and colleges, and the private sector.
