1088 Village Milk Societies (VMS) joined as parties respondents in the PIL in Gujarat High Court.

MEHSANA, GUJARAT, INDIA, December 16, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- In a massive show of strength against the adversaries of Dudhsagar Dairy, 1088 cooperative milk societies of the Mehsana District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (Dudhsagar Dairy) have joined as respondents in the PIL filed in the Gujarat High Court by two milk producers. In a hearing in High Court of Gujarat today, Division Bench of Hon. Mr. Chief Justice Bhasker Bhattacharya and Mr. JB Pardiwala after hearing the arguments of Mr. PS Champaneri, learned advocate for 1088 Primary Co-operative Societies affiliated to Dudhsagar Dairy, Mehsana have directed to join them as party respondents. The matter has been fixed for further hearing on 19th December 2013.

The overwhelming number of milk societies which constitute over 90% of all the Societies registered and affiliated to the District Union have come together in an unprecedented show of strength in support of Shri Vipul Chaudhary. The Milk Societies are of the firm view that these two persons have filed the PIL for their personal and political advantage only.

A visionary cooperative movement, on the lines of Amul-model, initiated in Mehsana more than 50 years ago, to organize the rural milk producers to help themselves had its benefits in building a strong cooperative movement that has pooled together the resources of milk producers.

Today, Dudhsagar Dairy has a membership of over 5.2 lakhs dairy farmers. Its consolidated turnover in 2012-13 was over Rs. 3400 crores. Dudhsagar dairy works on the lines of Amul model and it aims to fulfil the dream of Dr. Verghese Kurien. Dr. Kurien is the man behind the white revolution in India and he is known as “The Father of White Revolution” and “The Milkman from Anand.”

Dudhsagar is proud of its contributions to making India the largest milk producing nation in the world, and in the process empowering lakhs of cooperative dairy farmers of Mehsana and parts of Patan and Gandhinagar districts - socially, politically and economically.
