In support of President Obama's goal of doubling U.S. energy productivity by 2030, the Energy Department today announced new awards of more than $1 million to three states to advance clean energy manufacturing in their regions. This effort will help create economic development opportunities in local communities to significantly increase statewide energy savings and spur investment in clean energy technologies.

As part of their projects, Michigan, North Carolina, and Washington will develop roadmaps that will create or build upon public and private partnerships to foster private-sector capacity in clean energy manufacturing and services. Additionally, each will partner with neighboring state governments and organizations to develop long-term policies to increase clean energy manufacturing activity in their regions.

Fostering these partnerships will further the Energy Department's Clean Energy Manufacturing Initiative to boost America's manufacturing competitiveness while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Clean energy products and services can drive innovation, promote skilled employment, and power broader economic progress.

The State Energy Program provides financial and technical assistance to states and territories through formula and competitive grants. As the decision maker and administrator for energy-saving programs, states use the grants to address energy priorities, advance technology deployment, access partnerships and resources, and increase coordination.

The Energy Department's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy accelerates development and deployment of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies and market-based solutions that strengthen U.S. energy security, environmental quality, and economic vitality.
