Author Ann Patchett to keynote PLA President’s Program and Awards Presentation at ALA Annual Conference.

CHICAGO – From 1-2:30 p.m., June 30, the Public Library Association (PLA) and PLA president Eva Poole, chief of staff, District of Columbia Public Library, will host the PLA President’s Program and Awards Presentation with keynote speaker Ann Patchett at the ALA 2013 Annual Conference in Chicago.
Ann Patchett is known not only for writing award-winning, compelling and thoughtful books, but also for eschewing the trend and opening Parnassus Books, an independent bookstore in Nashville, Tenn., when all the other bookstores in town had closed.
Patchett’s titles frequently hit the New York Times bestseller list and include State of Wonder; Run; Truth Beauty; The Magician’s Assistant; The Patron Saint of Liars, a New York Times Notable Book of the Year; Taft, which won the Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize; and Bel Canto, which won the PEN/Faulkner Award, the Orange Prize, the BookSense Book of the Year and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Her work has been translated into more than 30 languages.
Preceding Ann Patchett’s presentation at the program will be the recognition and celebration of 11 PLA award winners.
