UKOOA Response To DTI Announcement On Gas Moratorium Consultation
In response to the President of the Board of Trades announcement today on energy policy, James May, Director-General of UKOOA, the representative body for the UK offshore oil and gas industry, said:
UKOOA supports electricity market reforms which benefit both domestic and industrial consumers. However, we see no reason for the maintenance of artificial restrictions on gas fired power in the interim. The continued restrictions on gas-fired power stations announced today will have a negative impact on investment and jobs in the gas industry and will undermine confidence in the future viability and investment potential of gas in the UK.
UKOOA will respond in detail to the Consultation Paper.
Note to Editors UKOOA represents 36 operating companies licensed by HM Government to explore for and produce oil and gas in UK waters.
