Darling and Botts Head Line Up for First UKOOA Oil and Gas Conference
The Rt Hon Alistair Darling MP, the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, and Tom Botts, the executive vice president Europe of Shell International Exploration and Production, head an impressive line-up of speakers at this autumns UKOOA Oil and Gas Conference in Aberdeen.
The theme of the conference, which is the first to be organised by the UK Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA), is competitiveness. Other confirmed speakers include Patrick Heren of Heren Energy, Ian McCafferty, the chief economic advisor for the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), Tom Smith, the managing director of the international telecommunications business Nessco Ltd and co-chair of the oil and gas industry leadership team, Mike Tholen, UKOOA's economics and commercial director, and Mike Wagstaff, chief executive of Venture Production Ltd, a leading UK oil and gas independent.
The conference is the first of three consecutive events being held over two days (November 7 8) at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre and is sponsored by Shell. The UKOOA Oil and Gas Awards Dinner, sponsored by BP, takes place in the evening of November 7, at the end of the conference, followed next day by the 8th PILOT Share Fair, sponsored by RBG Ltd, where 17 major oil and gas companies will unveil their plans for projects in the North Sea over the coming 18 months.
Malcolm Webb, the chief executive of UKOOA, said: "Investment in the UK oil and gas industry continues to grow and is expected to rise this year to around £11 billion. But sustaining investment over time to maximise the recovery of the UKs oil and gas reserves will require a determined effort to protect the UKs competitive position in the global marketplace for funds and resources.
"The UKOOA conference offers a platform upon which to debate the elements necessary to boost UK competitiveness, such as creativity, talent, collaboration and innovation, and to explore what needs to be done to ensure a bright future for our industry."
The events are already attracting wide interest from the industry including support from BG Group, Maersk Oil, Chevron Upstream Europe, Marathon Oil UK Ltd, OPITO and Technip, in addition to the three main sponsors.
