Delaware Resident Dr. Albert A. Rizzo Named Chair of the American Lung Association National Board of Directors
Washington, D.C. (August 16, 2011)—
Delaware pulmonologist Albert A. Rizzo, M.D., was named the national volunteer chair of the American Lung Association board of directors. He will serve a one-year term in this position and will work closely with the American Lung Association’s president and CEO Charles D. Connor to advance the organization’s mission of saving lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
“Dr. Rizzo is a talented physician and a committed volunteer who is dedicated to improving the lung health of all Americans,” said Charles D. Connor, president and CEO of the American Lung Association. “He is a natural leader who sets an example through his work and continues to inspire Lung Association staff and those we serve.”
Dr. Rizzo is chief of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine section at Christiana Care Health Systems, and he serves as managing partner and medical director of the Lung Health and Sleep Enhancement Center at Pulmonary Associates. Prior to his election to the American Lung Association national board of directors, he served a two-year term as the speaker of its nationwide assembly.
He has served as a volunteer for the American Lung Association in Delaware for more than 20 years, including two terms as the state chapter chairman of the board of directors.
Dr. Rizzo’s efforts were integral to establishing the Delaware Asthma Consortium, which now includes more than 60 members from the Delaware community, pharmaceutical companies and businesses to address management and care of individuals with asthma.
