Angola applies for Francophonie membership
The document was delivered by Angola’s Foreign Affairs minister, Manuel Augusto, to the OIF director general, Louise Mushikiwabo.
On the occasion, the diplomat affirmed that the act materializes the publicly expressed desire of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, to see the country join this institution.
The intention, added the diplomat, is based on the fact that Angola has privileged relations with French-speaking countries, besides enabling it to strengthen its integration with neighbouring nations, in particular, the members of the La Francophonie in general.
The move is also aimed at strategically integrate Angola in the context of the sovereignty nations.
The Angolan Foreign minister is since Wednesday in France at the invitation of his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, with whom he is due to analyze the relations between the two states as well as current issues of concern in the international arena.
The diplomatic relations between the Republics of Angola and France date back to February 1976, with the recognition of the independence of the then People's Republic of Angola.
