Hoyer: Once Again, President Trump is Kowtowing to Foreign Autocrats
“I was disturbed that President Trump hosted at the White House a leader who has subverted democracy in his country and suppressed freedom of the press and civil institutions. If Prime Minister Orbán wanted an invitation to sit down with the President of the United States in the Oval Office, he should have earned it by espousing the principles of democracy, freedom, and human rights. Americans and Hungarians alike struggled for liberty and justice in the past, and the bust of Lajos Kossuth in the U.S. Capitol attests to our common bonds in pursuit of democratic ideals. Once again, President Trump is kowtowing to foreign autocrats without regard for America's principles and interests."
