Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would be appalled by the wide-scale discrimination of the disabled
People with disabilities can no longer be treated as far lower class citizens and denied 911 emergency first responder medical and police services
Jonathan had autism and he was developmentally disabled and only 13 when he was denied 911 emergency services a few times before he was ultimately killed. Jonathan was only 13 when he was suffocated to death by his New York State caregiver. What happened to Jonathan speaks loud and clear today for equal rights for the disabled and to end such a gross injustice. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/06/nyregion/boys-death-highlights-crisis-in-homes-for-disabled.html and https://www.nytimes.com/video/nyregion/100000000849083/a-failure-to-protect.html . As Jonathan’s father and the founder of the Jonathan Carey Foundation http://jonathancareyfoundation.org/ I cannot remain silent. The horrors and literal atrocities that Jonathan suffered and endured within the three short years he lived in residential care facilities before he was killed demand massive reforms.
The disabled can no longer be treated unequally and denied emergency 911 first responder medical and police services and their basic constitutional right to equal protection of laws. We must work together to end this gross injustice and discrimination against our most vulnerable. We must prevent the further loss of precious innocent lives and ensure that 911 is no longer bypassed for our disabled. We as a civil society cannot sit by and allow this evil and the purposeful denial of equal protection of laws to continue any longer, it is without question discrimination in civil rights.
Stand with us for “equal rights” and “civil rights” for people with disabilities in New York State and throughout our great country by signing our petition at www.jonathancareyfoundation.org. No longer can 911 be bypassed, 911 call systems must be immediately called by all mandated reporters regarding all physical and sexual assaults, gross negligence of care, significant and suspicious injuries and when a person with a disability is in medical distress or has stopped breathing. http://jonathancareyfoundation.org/donate/
