PR’s Great for Social Media---If It Can Get Through
Here’s a not-too-surprising finding from a recent survey by the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics: Companies are peering closer than ever at how their employees use social media, both at work and on their own time.
How much closer? The number of respondents who took disciplinary action against their employees for “inappropriate” use of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn rose from 24% to 42% during the one year between 2009 and 2010.
From the employee side, 33% said they weren’t permitted to use Facebook or Twitter at work and 31% said their organizations had yet to set policies about the use of social media outside the office.
If you want to get your message across to working employees your best bet is LinkedIn. A total of 47% responded that it was okay to access LinkedIn at work.
